Housed on the 4th floor of a heritage building in St. Georges Mall, Cape Town, THEFOURTH is a gallery space bridging art and design, both contemporary and mid-century, local and international.
The intention behind this hybrid is to create a space that is invariably commercial, whilst at the same time informative. Viewers will be in a position to understand more about design, its history and its inextricable relationship with art.
THEFOURTH features contemporary design pieces of the likes of Kartell, Moroso (True Design), and newly launched ones from Tom Dixon (Crema Design), as well as mid-century furniture by Percival Lafer, Giancarlo Piretti, and Arne Jacobsen to mention a few. They coexist with local furniture from Bofred, tapestries from Frances van Hasselt and silk scarves from Mantua Silkware, homeware accessories from Kirsten Goss, candles from Okracandle and various ceramics by local artisans. These, together with a selection of international books from Phaidon, local art books by BAD PAPER and second hand ones from Hot Days Cool Books, are for sale in THESHOP, the gallery’s own concept store.
