BIOGRAPHY


Daniel Malan was born in 1991 in Cape Town, South Africa. He graduated from The Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2015, majoring in printmaking and receiving distinction in his practical studies. Midway through 2016 he began a design internship with Kim Jones in the Louis Vuitton Menswear department. Returning to Cape Town at the start of 2018 to begin freelance concept and design work for a number of local and international brands. In 2020 Malan and a partner started founded Hot Days Cool Books a bookstore focusing on Art and Design in an African context.

Malan’s current studio focus has been large scale chalk drawings which have been featured in a number of group shows, his first solo show in April of 2020 and most recently a collaboration with local menswear label Fields. In addition to the drawings Malan takes photographs and short videos, these have been featured in exhibitions as well as a self published book and zines.
